Dear Reader,
In keeping with recent times, March was a crucial month for tech policy and regulation for the country. The much awaited Personal Data Protection bill was not brought forward for discussion in Parliament and likely will be discussed in the next session. In a boost to merchants, consumers and payments companies, the PAPG guidelines have also been deferred by a period of 6 months.
On another note, the cover story for our March issue analyses the role of AI in the future of the economy, and addresses the concern that it will reduce employment opportunities. Another piece does a deep dive into the proposal to mandate traceability of social media messages in India, and examines whether it holds up to the principles laid out by the Puttaswamy Test of the Supreme Court. As always, stay tuned for more updates from the developments in the tech policy space in the country!
Best Wishes
